66% of Responders Can't Pass CPR Test 3 Months After Training

A review of 19 published studies on CPR and AED skills retention shows these skills are lost very quickly. Investigators found that, on average, 66% of people could not pass a skills test just three months after instructor-led training. Approximately 90% failed after 12 months. The tests were based on national CPR and AED standards.

The reviewers looked at studies published in peer-reviewed medical journals over the past 30 years. All of the studies conducted an evaluation of trainee skills at the time of training and up to twelve months after training. The review was conducted by staff at Insight Instructional Media, makers of AED Challenge.
